Sable Peak by Devney Perry marks the end of a phenomenal series. Although I looked forward to the release of Sable Peak. I wasn’t ready to let this family go. They say, ‘all good things must come to an end’, and so it is with a sad heart I say goodbye to the Eden’s. In this the last book in the series, Perry served up an emotionally charged friends to lovers, single dad romantic tale. A tale designed to grip readers from start to finish.

Maybe some would consider her crush on Mateo Eden wasted time. Maybe some would call her a fool for loving a man who hasn’t once dropped a crumb of interest her way. Still, to Vera, it’s Mateo or nothing.
He’s handsome. Charming. Witty. And he loves his family the way Vera loves—with her whole heart.
Maybe he’ll never notice her. Maybe she’s too damaged, too broken, to find that normal life she craves. Maybe her secrets will always keep them apart. But Vera will love him anyway. Whether Mateo realizes it or not.
An unrequited love, small town romance.
The heroine, Vera, first made an appearance in Crimson River, where she lived in the mountains with her father. She now lives with Vance and Lyla and trying to come to terms with her new life. She’s trying to regain a semblance of normalcy and rediscover herself after spending four years away from civilization and attempting to move past the devastating tragedy that changed the trajectory of her life. No one besides Vance and Lyla knew the truth about her past.
The Eden’s embraced her and showed her the true meaning of family. She grew to love the family, but out of all the members, only one person held her heart in the palm of his hand, Mateo Eden. From the first moment she laid eyes on him, she knew he was her person. However, fear prevented her from declaring her feelings. Until one fateful night, under the influence of alcohol, she revealed how she felt. An action that would grant her her heart’s desire.
Mateo Eden, a pilot, previously resided and worked in Alaska. He returned home to Quincy, Montana, a decision which family appreciated. Prior to this instalment, I was curious as to his reasons for leaving a job he loved to return home. Well, Sable Peak provided the answer to that burning question. A few months after his return, he learned he was a father to a newborn baby girl, making him a single dad, a position which he gladly embraced. He of course was oblivious to Vera’s feelings until that fateful night when the blinders were lifted, and he saw her as more than a friend.
I loved how Perry delivered the story. Readers see how the relationship between Mateo and Vera evolved from friends to lovers. I adored the bond she shared with his daughter. The romance which developed will give you all the feels with its sweet, passionate and swoon worthy moments. He protected her and offered her the support she needed in getting her life back on track, while she encouraged him to pursue his dreams.
The story wouldn’t be complete without the members of Eden Family making an appearance. They along with the other secondary characters added depth to the story. It warmed my heart to see Vera get the closure she needed with her father. I am glad how that aspect of the story was wrapped up.
Packed with emotion and depth, Sable Peak delivered a beautiful and heart-warming story about love, healing, and family. A fitting conclusion to a well-loved series.
